TOUR OVERVIEW
Home to two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceroses, The Kaziranga National Park is a dream destination for any avid wildlife enthusiast and photographer. Spread over 430km2, this lush green flood plain is fed by the mighty Brahmaputra, and comprises of tall, dense grasslands interspersed with canebrakes, open woodlands, interconnecting streams and numerous lakes or ‘beels‘. Living amongst these amazing forests are 1641 adult one-horned rhinos, and boasts of one of the worlds highest density of tigers. The park is also home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer, apart from being a hotspot for 470 species of birds.
We will also be visiting Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, an isolated evergreen forest, that is home to the only apes in India, the Western Hoolock Gibbon, as well as the only nocturnal primate found in the northeast Indian states, the Bengal slow loris. Other primates include the stump-tailed macaque, northern pig-tailed macaque, eastern Assamese macaque, rhesus macaque, and capped langur. The sanctuary is a 21km2 treasure of semi-evergreen vegetation composed of the amazing Hollong trees, and evergreen shrubs and herbs.
