Frequently asked questions

What camera do I need for a wildlife photography tour?

Bringing your own camera is strongly recommended. It should ideally be a mirrorless camera or a digital SLR, with a lens of at least 300mm to make the most of the tour. If you do not have the recommended equipment, contact us on +91 99001 47018 and we will help you hire a camera or lens.

How many people are on an Outback Experience tour?

Every departure publishes its own guest cap, and the caps are deliberately low so that each participant gets individual attention. The Kabini tour, for example, runs with a maximum of 6 participants plus Phillip Ross. As we put it on our own tour pages: we do not cater to very large groups per batch.

Who leads the tours and camps?

Phillip Ross, Director and Photography Mentor, leads the photo tours and private guided tours. He won gold and bronze in the FIAP Photography World Cup in 2014, was Highly Commended at the DJMPC Wildlife Photography Awards in 2024 and 2025, was a finalist at the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2012 - 2026, is a Canon EOS Maestro, and has been travelling to Kabini since 2002. Samantha Ross runs the kids, teens and family programme.

Do you run wildlife camps for children?

Yes. Our kids, teens and family camps each carry their own age band: 10 to 16 years for the Junior Wildlife Photographer Camp in Kabini, 11 to 17 for the Kids Photography Workshop in Bengaluru, and 8 to 14 for the Young Naturalist Camp at Bannerghatta. Call +91 98861 99035 for camp enquiries.

Where is The Outback Farm and Homestay, and what does a night cost?

The farm sits on the periphery of Bannerghatta National Park, a mere 35 km from the heart of Bangalore. The Lake Facing Room is INR 8,900 and the Forest Facing Room INR 8,700 per night for two people, including all meals, coffee and tea, and the included activities. Call +91 94480 47018.

How do I book a tour, and how do I pay?

Send us an enquiry with your preferred batch and the number of participants, and we will come back with everything you need. Booking is confirmed on 100% payment in advance. Payment is by bank transfer for tours, and by UPI, bank transfer or card for the kids camps. Email info@theoutbackexperience.in.
