Kaziranga Tiger Reserve| Gibbon Sanctuary
Realm of Horns, Stripes & Gibbons
Five nights and six days in one of India’s richest wildlife habitats: seven safaris in Kaziranga and a half-day excursion into the only forest in India where apes live.
The Brahmaputra flood plain, and the apes beyond it
Home to two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceroses, The Kaziranga National Park is a dream destination for any avid wildlife enthusiast and photographer. Spread over 430km2, this lush green flood plain is fed by the mighty Brahmaputra, and comprises of tall, dense grasslands interspersed with canebrakes, open woodlands, interconnecting streams and numerous lakes or ‘beels‘. Living amongst these amazing forests are 1641 adult one-horned rhinos, and boasts of one of the worlds highest density of tigers. The park is also home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer, apart from being a hotspot for 470 species of birds.
We will also be visiting Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, an isolated evergreen forest, that is home to the only apes in India, the Western Hoolock Gibbon, as well as the only nocturnal primate found in the northeast Indian states, the Bengal slow loris. Other primates include the stump-tailed macaque, northern pig-tailed macaque, eastern Assamese macaque, rhesus macaque, and capped langur. The sanctuary is a 21km2 treasure of semi-evergreen vegetation composed of the amazing Hollong trees, and evergreen shrubs and herbs.

Six days, as they run
Day1
On arrival at the Guwahati airport, tour instructor, Phillip Ross will greet you and welcome you to the land of Rhinos (we will help you with arranging your travel from Guwahati to Kaziranga, at an extra cost at actuals). We soon find ourselves aboard a pre-arranged vehicle driving towards Kaziranga. Upon check-in at our lovely resort, we have an introductory session about Kaziranga and what’s in store for us for the next few days.
We end the night with a delicious dinner.
Day2
We awake to the sweet calls of the birds found within the camp and after a hot cup of coffee or tea, we prepare to depart for the morning safari. We enter the forest early in the morning and reach the gates of one of the four zones of this beautiful park, our aim will be to get some amazing images of animals in the mist. As the mist rises, the beauty of this magical land becomes evident. After a fascinating drive, we return to the resort for breakfast. Phillip will now help all participants with a one-on-one image review session, so that the afternoon’s safari will be more productive.
We return to the forest in the afternoon, hoping to make images of more of the magnificent wildlife found here.
On our return at dusk, we will have another learning session on photography, and end the night with dinner.
Day3
The Day of the Gibbon
We start the day early, as we will be visiting the gorgeous Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. Once we arrive at Gibbon, we spend the entire morning walking through this wonderland looking for the amazing primates that call this place home.
We drive back to our lodge for a late lunch and another lovely evening safari in Kaziranga.
We meet for a casual get-together and review images from the last 2 days, before we end the night with dinner.
Days4 & 5
Exploration Kaziranga
On these 2 days, we strategise, and make a target list of perspectives we would like to go back with from Kaziranga, and return to these amazing jungles in the morning and evening, keeping in mind our target while enjoying the amazing mammals and magnificent birds we get to track down on safari. By now, we will have a good understanding of the park and thus, we will use this day to nail every good photography opportunity we encounter.
We end each night with a celebratory dinner.
Day6

On our final morning, we catch up over a hot cup of tea/coffee, before we check out and drive back to Guwahati Airport, where we are sure you won’t be able to wait to tell your friends and family some fascinating tales once you get back to your lovely homes.
