A dream destination for the macro world
Munnar sits at around 5,200 feet in the Western Ghats, with roughly 3,000mm of annual rainfall - these pristine rainforest habitats are an absolute dream destination for lovers of the macro world. Over 36 documented frog species live here, including bush frogs, gliding frogs, tree frogs and dancing frogs, alongside reptiles such as pit vipers and forest lizards, and endemic mammals including the Nilgiri tahr, flying squirrels and the occasional leopard or elephant.
We base ourselves at Windermere Estate, which accommodates a maximum of 4 participants, with wildlife photographer Phillip Ross leading the search for the estate’s macro subjects, including the resplendent shrub frog.

Four days, as they run
Day1
Arrive by 2 p.m. and check in at Windermere Estate, with lunch, a wildlife briefing and a camera-settings presentation. That evening, a late walk along the estate and its brook seeks amphibians, reptiles, insects and nocturnal mammals.
Day2-3
Full days exploring Eravikulam National Park for Nilgiri tahr and endemic bird photography, with a targeted search for the resplendent shrub frog. Expect plenty of walking, and a celebratory dinner each evening.
Day4
A leisurely morning reviewing photographs, a farewell breakfast, and checkout at your convenience.

Cancellation Fees
- 10% outside 30 days before the tour
- 25% between 29 and 22 days before the tour
- 50% between 21 and 15 days before the tour
- 75% between 14 and 8 days before the tour
- 100% within 7 days before the tour

Who is this tour for?
Anybody above the age of 18 with a passion to learn and master photography. There are no other eligibility criteria.

How many participants can be expected to attend?
A maximum of 4 participants are expected. The Outback Experience’s USP is to provide as much individual attention and quality time to each participant as possible and thus the group strength has been kept low. We do not cater to very large groups per batch!
Where are we staying and what sort of accommodation and food can we expect?
We will be staying at Windermere Estate, which offers comfortable rooms and a buffet featuring local, Indian and continental cuisine.
